1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how CallerScope (“CallerScope”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects information when you visit our website (the “Website”). We keep data collection to the minimum needed to operate the Website.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide. When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the topic you select and your message, together with your IP address and browser type, which we use to protect the form against spam.
Searched phone numbers. When you submit a phone number, it is passed to our search partner, exactly as you typed it, so the search can be completed. We also store the number you searched together with the time of the search, and use its area code and exchange (the first six digits) in aggregated statistics. Retention is described in section 7. We do not use searched numbers to contact anyone.
Technical information. Like most websites, our servers automatically log standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, device type, referring page and the date and time of your visit.
Usage statistics. We record which version of our pages you saw, the campaign link you arrived from (if any), whether you started a search, and your device type, device model, operating system and browser (from your browser's user agent and, where your browser provides them, client hints), linked to a random visitor identifier. We use this only to measure how well our pages work. IP addresses are stored in a one-way hashed form.
3. How we use information
- to operate, maintain and secure the Website;
- to route your phone search to our search partner;
- to measure visits and searches across our page versions, campaigns, devices and browsers;
- to understand search demand, for example which area codes are searched most;
- to respond to messages you send us;
- to prevent spam, abuse and fraud; and
- to comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making.
4. Phone searches & our partner
Searches submitted on the Website are completed by BeenVerified, an independent third party. When you are redirected, the phone number you entered is included in the link so the partner can run the search. From that point, the partner's own privacy policy governs how your information is collected and used. CallerScope does not maintain a database of personal records.
If you would like to request removal of your information from people-search results, please submit an opt-out request directly with BeenVerified through its website.
5. Cookies
We use a small number of first-party cookies:
- Session cookie — keeps the Website secure (for example, protects the contact form against forged submissions); expires when you close your browser.
- Visitor and page-version cookies — a random identifier, the page version you saw and the campaign link you arrived from, so we can count unique visitors and show you the same page version on return visits; kept for up to 30 days (the visitor identifier for up to 12 months).
- Search reference cookie — a random reference number passed to our search partner when you search, so a purchase you make on the partner's site later can be matched to your earlier search; kept for up to 30 days. It does not contain the phone number you searched.
We do not use advertising cookies, and these cookies are not shared with third parties. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address as part of delivering those files.
6. How we share information
We share information only:
- with our search partner, to the extent needed to complete a search you request;
- with service providers that host and operate the Website, under confidentiality obligations;
- when required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or to protect our rights and the safety of others; and
- in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
7. Data retention & security
Searched phone numbers and the related search records are kept for as long as they are needed to operate, secure and improve the Website, to measure its performance and to keep business records. We review stored data periodically and delete it when it is no longer needed for these purposes, or earlier at your verified request (see Your privacy rights).
Contact form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping, and are deleted at your verified request (see Your privacy rights). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live — including California (CCPA/CPRA), Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and other states with privacy laws — you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
- request correction or deletion of your personal information;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising); and
- not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
To exercise these rights, email [email protected] or use our contact form and choose “Privacy / data request”. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by law. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf.
9. Children's privacy
The Website is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
